An Open Message to Senator Lamar Alexander

An Open Message to Senator Lamar Alexander

Senator, your nation needs you.

The message sent by Tuesday night’s election is not completely clear but one thing is obvious.  The voters did not reward gridlock. The American people want their leaders to get something done. Soon.

HomeGrown: Sen. Lamar Alexander

"I'm not a Senator from Tennessee, I'm a Senator of Tennessee."

Senator Lamar Alexander is not only a familiar name in Tennessee politics, but across the country.

"I feel lucky to be doing what I'm doing."

The Maryville native has certainly come a long way.

"I was a little mischievous."

Alexander got his first library card at age three. A year later, he started taking piano lessons at Maryville College. He practiced every morning before school after his paper deliveries.

They are Zumba instructors mostly from East Tennessee.

Offensive Player of the Week

Anderson County quarterback Micah Hodge was chosen as the USA Today High School Sports Offensive Player of the Week. Hodge completed 31-of-41 passes for 383 and two touchdowns while leading the Mavericks to an important 25-20 win over Hardin Valley.

Hodge injured his knee with about two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the victory. The senior has been doing therapy and hopes to be able to play in the final regular season game against arch rival Clinton.

HomeGrown: Claire Donahue

From the world's most competitive stage to the White House, Gold Medalist Claire Donahue is living beyond the dream.

"I still have to pinch myself sometimes... actually everyday," says Claire Donahue. "I've been dreaming of going to the Olympics since I was 10, but I never thought about if I actually made it."

She's come a long way since her very first splash in the Tellico Village pool at age six.
