The SUV's driver, 45-year-old Cynthia R. Montooth of Knoxville, died in the crash on Highway 11 near Callaway Road, which happened shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday.

The accident also injured two students and the bus driver, 54-year-old Larry D. Harbin.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol fatal accident report, Harbin tried but couldn't avoid the SUV when it crossed the center line and collided head-on into the bus.

ID=22917807Officials said the bus driver wasn't wearing a seat belt, which could have prevented him from getting hurt. Crews took Harbin to Parkwest Hospital, but officials haven't released the extent of his injuries.

Personal vehicles also took two of the nine students to the hospital. A bus took the other seven students to school.

The school bus served Loudon High School and Philadelphia Middle School.

The accident forced THP to shut down the highway for several hours.
