Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Hundreds of East Tennessee cancer patients benefit from a volunteer effort to help them around the holidays.

"This says love is all you need," reads a hand made pillow case.

Love motivated UT Medical Oncologist Dr. Susan Huntsinger to start a program to help the cancer patients she treats.

"To be able to do this for them and give them just that little bit of spark that little bit of hope is just a wonderful thing," she said.

She realized the holidays can be especially difficult for her patients.

Gov. Haslam announces grants for parks, communities

Monday afternoon, Governor Bill Haslam was in East Tennessee to announce which parks and communities could be getting some additional help for community projects.

He visited the Oliver Springs City Hall to hand out community development grants and local parks and recreation grants.

Among the lucky recipients, Oliver Springs and Lenoir City both received $500,000 for water or sewer system improvements. Cocke County got nearly the same amount for a water line extension, and Clinton received $339,000 for housing rehabilitation.

Fiddlers rev up bows for bluegrass competition in Loudon

The Smoky Mountain Fiddlers Convention this weekend will feature musical entertainment as well as competitions.

It's at Legion Field in Downtown Loudon under a big tent.

This is the 30th anniversary Smoky Mountain Fiddler's Convention presented by Loudon Rotary Club.

Friday bluegrass entertainment starts at 6:00 along with and arts and craft festival.

The musical line up includes: Paul Williams & Victory Trio, Shadow Ridge, and Just Us.

Dad charged after son shoots mom in the head

A Lenoir City father is facing charges after his son shot his wife in the head. 

Daniel Duggan, 37, is charged with child abuse by neglect, for leaving a gun where the boy could get access to it.  Duggan told 10News Wednesday that the loaded gun was between the mattress and slats of a bunk bed.

He was arrested by Loudon County Sheriff's deputies at the Department of Children's Services office around 8:30 Wednesday night.  Duggan is being held in the Loudon County jail on a $2500 bond.

Sheriff: Loudon Co. mom survives after being shot by son

A Loudon County woman is in serious condition after officials say she was shot by her 11-year-old son.

The Loudon County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting just after midnight on Wednesday. It happened on Parkway Drive in the Eaton Crossroads Community of Loudon County.

According to the the Sheriff's Office and family members, Stacy Duggan was shot in the head by her 11-year old son. Duggan's husband called the shooting an accident, saying his son has a traumatic brain injury.
