Lenoir City boy needs a service dog

Lenoir City boy needs a service dog

A Maryville based non-profit trains service dogs to help people with neurological disabilities.

Wilderwood Service Dogs work with everything from Autism to Alzheimer's.

The dogs take about 18-months and thousands of dollars to train.

A Lenoir City boy needs one. His name is Danny.

Like a lot of seven-year-olds, Danny Lewis enjoys sports.

"I play baseball, football, and basketball," he said.

And like a lot of little boys he has a lot of energy.

People in Loudon County remember a tragic event with a positive effort to help someone in need.

Loudon County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Acott was killed in the line of duty in 2004.

The annual motorcycle ride named for him raises money for a good cause.

This Saturday's ride will help a local family.

Madison is four years old. She is the only child of Todd and Ashley Currier.

"We think she's pretty adorable," Ashley Currier said about her daughter.

The family lives in Lenoir City.

Loudon County helped a child get one step closer to getting a much-needed service dog.

Danny Lewis, 7, was recently diagnosed with Heller's Disease, an illness that causes dementia in a child.

Service dogs can cost around $12,000. The Lewis family has raised $5,000 as of now.

Today Lenoir City held a bake sale during their "City Street Festival," helping in that family's efforts.

The next fundraiser for Danny Lewis will be on October 27. This event is a pancake breakfast at the Lenoir City Ruritan Rotary Club.
