Loudon Co. man arrested in Ariz. on child rape charges

A Loudon County man wanted on child rape charges is now behind bars on the other side of the country.

U.S. marshals arrested 61-year-old Edward Underwood in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday. Underwood is accused of raping a child younger than 13 years old in July.

U.S. marshals say they arrested him without major complications.

Underwood is currently being held in Arizona pending extradition to Tennessee.

Thief stole wallet while homeowner was sleeping

The Loudon County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who broke into a home while the family was sleeping, stole a wallet, then tried to use a stolen credit card.

It happened on September 28 on Lake Crest Drive.

After the break-in, the suspect tried to use the credit car at at ATM inside the Farragut Kroger around 7:00 am.

Detectives are urging anyone with information on the identity of the suspect to call Sergeant Detective Charlie Cosner at (865) 986-4823.

Lenoir City businessman facing child sex charge

A Lenoir City businessman propositioned an undercover agent who was posing as a teenage boy on a social media site.  

According to court documents, a Lenoir City Police sergeant made contact with Christopher Wiggins, 36, last month.  During an online chat, Wiggins acknowledged that he knew the "teenager's" age and that "I gotta watch what I say cause your age."

Wiggins invited the "teen" over to his house, asked him if "he was into guys" and gave him his phone number.

Tellico Village man found not guilty of murder charges

The man accused in a deadly Tellico Village shooting has been found not guilty.

Norman Whitton was charged with second degree murder in the death of Larry Butcher in April of 2010.  Both men were in their 70's.  The two had an altercation where Whitton claimed that Butcher attacked him as he sat in his pickup truck.  Whitton claimed he shot Butcher in self-defense.

According to the Loudon County court clerk's office,  the jury acquitted Whitton Wednesday evening.

The trial lasted three days.

A Lenoir City mother who was shot in the head by her 11-year- old son appeared in court Tuesday morning.

A judge arraigned Stacy Duggan on charges of child neglect and probation violation.   She was arrested Monday.

Investigators say it appears her son shot her accidentally last week at their Loudon County home.

A Lenoir City father is facing charges after his son shot his wife in the head. 

Daniel Duggan, 37, is charged with child abuse by neglect, for leaving a gun where the boy could get access to it.  Duggan told 10News Wednesday that the loaded gun was between the mattress and slats of a bunk bed.

He was arrested by Loudon County Sheriff's deputies at the Department of Children's Services office around 8:30 Wednesday night.  Duggan is being held in the Loudon County jail on a $2500 bond.

Authorities investigating meth lab at Inn of Lenoir

Authorities in Lenoir City are investigating a meth lab found at a local motel.

Just after midnight authorities were called to the Inn of Lenoir for a meth lab in one of the rooms.

Authorities found it while executing a separate search warrant.

Four people have been arrested but no charges have been formally made.

Authorities recovered several guns, drug paraphernalia along with the active meth lab.
